NO OTHER UNIT in the Archdiocese of Galveston/Houston has ever done what we did today…. Out of nearly 200 Catholic Units in our Archdiocese, WE WON ALL 3 BISHOP’S TROPHIES! The trophies were awarded to our Scouts this afternoon at the Religious Emblems and Awards Ceremony, sponsored by the Archdiocesan Catholic Committee on Scouting held at Strake Jesuit College Preparatory in Houston.

All of Unit 1517 have been invited to the District Roundtable this Thursday night at 7:00 in Willis to celebrate our accomplishment. It’s location is North Montgomery Community Center (600 Gerald St, Willis, TX 77378).

Boy Scouts of America

We are a Catholic Unit chartered by the Knights of Columbus 6456. In Catholic Scouting, it matters little if you are totally proficient in all of the traditional Scouting skills like knot tying, hiking, and camping, if you have not significantly grown in your love and knowledge of Our Lord Jesus Christ and His Church while participating in these traditional activities.

Unit 1517 aims to make boys aware of the beauty of God’s creation, with emphasis that the Scout Oath’s first Duty is to God and the Scout Law’s last point is “A Scout is Reverent.” Scouting in the Catholic Church strives to bring Father, Son, and Holy Spirit to the center of every boy’s Scouting efforts.

Cubs Scouts is for boys in 1st to 5th grade or who are 7 to 10 years of age.

Boy Scouts is for boys who have earned the Arrow of Light Award and/or are 10 to 18 years of age.

Venturing Crew is a co-ed program open to boys and girls who have completed the 8th grade and are 13 to 20 years of age.
